Gone are the days when you needed a professional studio to build a portfolio. With smartphones offering high-quality cameras, you can create stunning images right from your living room or local park. (however it's always best to connect with creatives and create projects together). you can even Get your friends involved for a DIY photoshoot, Experiment with different looks and themes. Remember, your portfolio should reflect your personality, so let your creative juices flow!

3. Harness the Power of Social Media

Let’s talk about your digital runway: social media! Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are perfect for showcasing your style and getting noticed. Use hashtags strategically—#ModelSearch, #FreelanceModel, and #FashionInspo can help you connect with the right audience. Engage with brands, comment on posts, and don’t be shy about reaching out for collaborations. (for me, it was the strongest tool that helped me to build mine) Networking online is just as vital as in-person connections!

4. Collaborate with Emerging Creatives

Every established model started somewhere, and often it was alongside up-and-coming photographers, designers, and makeup artists. Look for local creatives who are building their portfolios and propose collaborations. Not only will you get great content, but you’ll also expand your network organically. Who knows? The next big designer could be lurking in your DMs! (AMEN GURL 🙏)

5. Attend Open Calls and Castings

Open calls are your golden ticket! Many brands and photographers hold open casting calls specifically for freelance models, AND ALSO AGENCIES, IF YOU'RE STILL ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THAT AS WELL. (Keep an eye out on social media and fashion job boards). FOR THE CASTINGS, Arrive prepared—bring your portfolio and a can-do attitude (MOST IMPORTANTLY!) Show them you’re not just a pretty face; you’ve got personality and professionalism to match!

6. Create Your Own Opportunities

Why wait for the perfect gig to come along? Get proactive! Organize your own mini photoshoots, collaborate with local brands for pop-up events, or even start your own fashion blog (LIKE YOURS TRULY) to share your style tips. The more you put yourself out there, the more chances you create for success!

7. Stay Authentic and Resilient

The modeling industry can be tough, but authenticity is key. Stay true to yourself and your values. Rejection is part of the game, so don’t let it dim your sparkle. Instead, view each experience as a learning opportunity. Cultivate resilience, and remember that every iconic model faced challenges before they made it big!
